Another Liebster Award! Wow!

I feel so loved!  Britt over in Easing into Room 100 nominated for me a Liebster Award!  If you haven't heard of it, it is to get blogs with less than 200 followers some exposure out there in that big blog world!  A Liebster is a German word that means sweetest, kindest, dearest, cute, endearing, etc.  It's so nice to spread some love!

Here are the rules to accept this award:
1. Link back to the person who nominated you (Britt).

2.  Answer the questions you were asked.  So here it goes!

How did you come up with the name for your blog?
Well... I struggled with this for a long time.  Everyone had really catchy names and some that I had thought of were already taken. My husband and I were throwing around ideas and Fifth Grade Ramblings came up, and the rest is history.

How many days this summer did you think about school for the upcoming year?
Ummmmm...it's always on my mind. It's like this annoying itch I can't scratch and I can never completely turn my brain off.  I see things, I pin things, and I read blogs so I'm always brainstorming. There was one week of bliss where I was on vacation at the beach where I truly stopped thinking, and it was wonderful.

How many students is your ideal number?
I've had 23, 22, 21, 17, and this year 18 fifth graders.  I like even numbers because it's easy to split into groups, and I just like everything to match; to have a partner.  I do have to say though, one of my 22 kiddo groups seemed like 10 compared to my rowdiest bunch of 17, who felt like 34 kids.  It depends on the groups.

What new and upcoming styles do you love/hate.
Let me start with the loves, because I always say the positives first.  I love maxi dresses.  Let me follow that up with my hate. I hate that they don't make maxi dresses in petites (that are easy to find). Ugh. I mean, come on.  I can't be the only shortie around.. I also don't like the ombre (sp?) hair coloring. I spent years trying to cover up the ombre and now it's back in style. coulda saved some money on that one!

What is the last movie you saw in the theaters/ rate it!
I saw The Heat with Megan McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. Oh man, was it funny! I went with my husband, brother in law, and his fiancé.  The girls (us) loved it because there is just so many funny girl moments (I think the boys didn't get it...)  If you want to just laugh at inappropriate humor, this movie is for you!

If you could teach anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Oooooh....good question....Why not somewhere tropical? I could do my lesson plans on the beach, sip margaritas.. this is sounding better by the second!

How did becoming a teacher change your life?
Well it certainly made it a lot busier, and more organized.  I love teaching, I truly do.  I don't like all the meetings, data collecting, meetings, new initiatives every time I turn around, but it all balances when I get to just shut the door and do my thing.  Moments like that when it's just you and your kids are my favorite, and it's those intimate times where you make the best connections with your students.  Teaching changed my life for the better; I get to learn from them, and I get to do what I am passionate about.

Did you have a student who impacted your life? If so, how?
I don't have one student in particular, but I certainly have those students who stick out.  They say you're not supposed to have favorites, but come on, there are those certain ones who you just gel with and leave some footprints on your heart.

What is the best/worst part of the school day for you?
Best part: Read aloud.  I love falling in love with characters with my students, because we can continue to talk about them all year round.

Worst part: Correcting the Daily Oral Language together. I just hate it.. and it's such a small minute part of my morning.. but if I have to ask "what goes at the end of a sentence?" one more time....gah! I really need to get over it :)

When do you start school?
The kids come on August 28th. I've got a couple precious weeks more of summer, but most of those will be filled with prepping the room, going to PD's, but I am going to make the most out of it!

  1. 18?! You are so lucky! I had 33 when I taught 5th, and this past year I had 33 first graders. Enjoy your last few weeks of summer.
